It was in April this year that the man stabbed the 31-year-old woman in the throat with a knife. The woman died in hospital.
The woman was at the perpetrator's home when the unprovoked attack occurred, Public Prosecutor Anna Lundberg has previously said.
The police quickly arrived at the scene and were able to arrest the man.
Skellefteå District Court has sentenced the man to forensic psychiatric care for murder with a special discharge review. He was also convicted of drug offences and of violating the law on prohibitions regarding knives and other dangerous objects.
One juror disagreed and wanted the man to be sentenced to prison.
