It was in February this year that the rescue service was alerted about an apartment fire in Helsingborg. But it would turn out to be a brutal attempted murder of a young man.
A group of men had gathered in the apartment, where a 36-year-old man is said to have demanded access to a younger man's bank account. When he did not succeed, the atmosphere is said to have become threatening.
The younger man called the emergency center and whispered that he was kidnapped, injured and needed help, but the operator did not understand what was going on and decided, in consultation with the police, to wait.
At the same time, the situation in the apartment escalated, where the 36-year-old took out a bottle of gasoline which he sprayed over the younger man – and set it on fire.
The burning man managed to put out the fire by throwing himself on the floor and making his way to the shower. He suffered burns to his face and upper body.
Now the 36-year-old is sentenced, despite his denial, to 11 years in prison for attempted murder and arson.
