A 35-year-old man is being treated for life-threatening injuries after being rescued from the water in Gothenburg on Friday night. The incident is being investigated as attempted murder.

Police responded to Gothenburg’s Fiskhamn in the Majorna district shortly before midnight after witnesses heard cries for help, the police wrote on their website. After a brief search, the man was found in the Göta River. He was pulled from the water in a rescue operation involving a lifebuoy and a boat, together with the Coast Guard and the rescue service.

The man was severely hypothermic when he was taken to hospital, according to police. On Saturday morning, Sahlgrenska University Hospital announced that he had life-threatening injuries, reports GP.

Police do not yet know how he ended up in the water and have filed a report of attempted murder. No one is suspected.
