The man, who is in his 70s, is being prosecuted for gross unauthorized handling of confidential information for having handled information related to Sweden's security without authorization.

According to the indictment, it involves six folders and a USB stick with information "of confidential character" that the man handled. The crimes are alleged to have been committed in the Stockholm area between April and June 2021.

"The act is classified as gross because the information relates to matters of great importance for the country's defense," writes the Prosecution Authority in a press release.

Prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist says in the press release that it involves information with very high protection value.

"It involves confidential matters that the man received in his previous positions but which he then without permission took with him and subsequently made his own material," says Ljungqvist.

There are no suspicions that the man had intended to go over to a foreign power.

The Security Police have conducted the preliminary investigation under the direction of a prosecutor at the National Unit for Security Cases.
