It was last fall when a mother took her child to the health center because she suspected an infection. The tests showed that the child had a sexually transmitted disease.
The parents were arrested, but were released when their tests came back negative. A 25-year-old man known to the family tested positive for the same sexually transmitted disease and was detained, despite his denials.
The evidence against the man was that the samples showed that the child and the man carried exactly the same strain of bacteria. This is unusual, prosecutor Sofia Gullbrandsson tells Mitti.
The man has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison and ordered to pay the child 420,000 kronor in damages. According to the man's lawyer, the verdict will be appealed.
