The release comes after district attorney Claudio Gitterman made a U-turn on Friday. He initially announced that he would seek the man's detention on suspicion of murder, but changed his mind after the autopsy report was completed.
The prosecutor writes in an email to the Supreme Court that the medical examiner believes the woman's injuries were not caused by another person.
The woman was found dead in the couple's shared home on Wednesday. Her injuries raised suspicions that she had been murdered, and the man was arrested.
