The man was found in the water by passersby just before 1 a.m. on Thursday. When rescue services, police and an ambulance arrived at the scene, private individuals had managed to get him to shore.
He was taken to hospital, but his life could not be saved.
It is being treated as an accident, and we have no suspicions of a crime, police spokesperson Olle Älveroth told SVT Nyheter Sörmland.
