According to SVT, the man was charged with 95 sexual offenses against 35 victims under the age of 15, the youngest of whom was eight at the time.
In total, the man was convicted of 80 sexual offenses - in addition to child rape, also aggravated child pornography offenses in two cases and sexual assault against children on five occasions - in what local media describes as one of Norrbotten's largest sexual offense cases against children. He will pay just over 5 million in damages divided between 24 plaintiffs.
The prosecutor requested eight years in prison, but the district court considered that the man's lengthy time in custody, the loss of his job and the large compensation he must pay mitigated the sentence.
