A police spokesperson said they received the alarm at 4 a.m. local time. A petrol bomb was thrown at an outside gate of the home, after which the man fled on foot.
Less than an hour later, a man was reported to be threatening to burn down OpenAI's headquarters. According to San Francisco police, officers at the scene recognized the suspect from the attack on Altman's home.
It is unclear what motives the suspected perpetrator had for the attacks.
