The man, who is in his 50s, was taken to hospital by ambulance. His condition is serious but stable, Sahlgrenska Hospital reports.
According to police, the man was conscious after the accident, which occurred on Sunday afternoon.
"We have filed a report of negligence in traffic and the electric scooter has been seized for technical examination," says Jon Franzén, officer on duty at the police, to the newspaper.
Tram traffic was affected for just under an hour, but was back on track at 4:15 p.m.
