The man was under the influence of narcotics and alcohol when he decided to fry chili cheese one evening in Sundsvall last year. He fell asleep and woke up to the fact that the pot was on fire in the kitchen. He tried to put out the fire and then went out of the apartment to get help when the explosion occurred, according to the newspaper.
It was a spray can with cleaning agent that had been placed near the stove that exploded. The kitchen windows, including the window frame, were blown out completely and landed on the ground outside. The man himself was taken to hospital with severe burns.
The Sundsvall District Court finds that the man acted negligently – partly for causing the fire and partly for having had the spray can so close to the stove. The court also believes that there was a risk to life and health since the fire could have spread. The window that flew out in the explosion also risked hitting passers-by.
The man is sentenced to day fines for reckless endangerment and minor drug offenses.
