A man is feared to have perished after falling overboard on Saturday evening from a ferry on its way to the Faroe Islands.
The ferry M/S Norröna was on its way from Hirtshals in Denmark to the Faroe Islands' capital, Torshavn. The incident occurred approximately 12 nautical miles south of Mandal in southern Norway.
Norwegian rescue services immediately initiated a search effort, but at 11 pm, Hovedredningssentralen announced that the operation had been terminated.
We unfortunately assess that there is no longer any hope of survival, and are therefore ending the search. We thank all resources for their help, the rescue service wrote on the platform X.
The reason why the man fell overboard is still unknown.
