The accident occurred on Monday during cleaning work on a gasoline tank at the gas station and is being investigated as gross negligence leading to another person's death through a workplace accident, according to the police. The man was severely injured and was taken to the hospital by ambulance helicopter, but later died from his injuries.
The police cordoned off a larger area around the gas station due to the risk of further explosions, but later in the afternoon, the outer cordons were lifted.
A technical investigation of the accident site is planned to be carried out on Tuesday. Frida Molander, prosecutor at the national unit for environmental and work environment cases, says that some initial interviews have been held, but it's too early to go into the matter.
We will find out what happened, how it could have happened, and who is responsible for it, she says.
