The alarm came shortly after 11 p.m., when police and an ambulance were called to the Western Port in Malmö. A man was found seriously injured at the scene and taken to hospital.
The man's life could not be saved and he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, says Peter Martin, the police officer on duty, to TT.
A suspect was arrested in a car in the area. The man, who is in his 30s, has now been arrested on suspicion of murder. The car has been seized.
The police cordoned off a large area during the night and used drones in their work at the scene.
"During the night we are working on questioning witnesses in the area and conducting door knocking. We have technicians on site," says Peter Martin.
By 5 a.m., the police were at the scene and the cordons were lifted.
The police are currently unable to say whether the deceased was previously known to the police.
The shooting in Malmö is the first fatality in Sweden since the end of April.
