A man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s were on the quad bike when it drove into the ditch.
"Doctors have confirmed that the man is dead. My understanding is that he was taken to hospital by ambulance after the accident," police spokesperson Pelle Vamstad said.
The woman is being treated in hospital with serious injuries. Police were alerted to the incident shortly after midnight on Sunday night. Police have seized the vehicle.
During the night, a man in his 20s also died in a quad bike accident outside Gällivare. He was flown to hospital by ambulance helicopter, but his life could not be saved.
