According to information to the Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Serra, the man is said to have run out onto the runway at the same time as an airplane was to take off.
Then the man is said to have been sucked into one of the plane's jet engines – and died.
It is unclear whether the man has entered the airport illegally.
The airport in Bergamo is located about five miles northeast of the metropolis Milan and the airport announces that traffic is cancelled for the time being and that the incident is being investigated by the police.
