A 29-year-old man who is suspected of having driven into a crowd with his car in Los Angeles in the USA during the night to Saturday has been detained for assault with a deadly weapon, according to local police.

Around 30 people were injured when the man drove straight into a line to a nightclub in the East Hollywood district. About ten were seriously injured.

The suspect had been thrown out of a popular nightclub shortly before the incident and drove into the people intentionally, reports Los Angeles Times.

He was pulled out of the car, handcuffed by security guards and then assaulted by onlookers before being shot in the back by a person from the other side of the street, says police officer Ben Fernandes to the newspaper.

The driver has received care and his condition is described as stable.
