"We can state that the district court regarding the defendant in his 30s has completely followed the prosecutor's line and sentenced him for rape. Regarding the defendant in his 40s who was acquitted by a dissenting district court, we can already say that we will appeal the verdict in that regard," says prosecutor Joakim Gustafsson according to a press release.
The convicted man will be sentenced to one year and six months in prison. According to the indictment, he allegedly had sexual intercourse with the woman while she was asleep and drunk in an apartment in Gottsunda in August 2015.
The woman called the police immediately after the incident and an investigation was launched. However, the case was closed by prosecutors in March 2016 due to lack of evidence. The investigation was resumed in late 2024, after which charges were brought in September of this year.
