It was during the New Year's celebration that a firework exploded on the ground and injured a boy so badly that he later died.

According to the investigation, the firework had been placed in a pipe to be shot up into the air and explode in the sky – but instead exploded on the ground, which led to the pipe shattering.

The shrapnel hit the 15-year-old in the head.

Investigation leader Tobias Kudrén believes that the accused has not had the training and the permit required.

"Moreover, the firework has ended up in the wrong direction, a pipe in the wrong material has been used and he has not ensured that people in the vicinity were at a sufficient safety distance", he says in a press release.

The accused man and the 15-year-old did not know each other.

The man denies the crime.
