The man who in March opened fire on police outside Karlshamn is being prosecuted for attempted murder of five police officers. The man was in turn hit by the police's shots.

According to prosecutor Hedvig Lundblad, it was only temporary circumstances that prevented the police officers from being hit by shots.

The task force struck against the man's residence on March 25. It was a planned operation in conjunction with an ongoing investigation. The man was detained in his absence and was to be arrested.

In addition to attempted murder, he is also charged with gross threats against an official, as he allegedly aimed his loaded weapon at another officer. The man is also charged with gross weapons offenses.

He admits to the weapons offense, but denies the rest.

The accused man has previously been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, but the sentence was later converted to a fixed-term sentence and he was released in 2020. This happened despite the risk of recidivism being assessed as medium-high, as Blekinge Läns Tidning has previously reported.
