The 55-year-old woman, who was found in an apartment in Malmö, was taken to hospital with serious injuries and later died.
The suspect was arrested and detained the same day. On Sunday, he was remanded in custody despite his denials, the newspaper reported.
The man will undergo a brief psychiatric evaluation to investigate whether he can be suspected of having committed the crime while under the influence of a serious mental disorder.
