The 26-year-old man is no longer a suspect, Devon and Cornwall Police said. The investigation is ongoing.
Ann Widdecombe, 78, was found dead at her home in Devon on Thursday. Her body had suffered severe injuries, according to the BBC.
Widdecombe was a Conservative minister at the Home Office and the Department of Employment and Social Affairs from 1994 to 1997 under Prime Minister John Major. In 2019, she became a Member of the European Parliament for the Brexit Party, which later became Reform UK.
On Friday, Prime Minister Keir Starmer deplored the murder, calling it “shocking news.”
