Eight people were arrested during a police operation in the Sala Backe district on Sunday. Only one of them was detained; the rest were released the same day.

"After some interrogations and other measures today, I released him, but the suspicion of assault remains. Now the court in Örebro must investigate whether the procedure was carried out under satisfactory conditions," says prosecutor Emma Haals.

A written-off case

The man was initially suspected of aggravated assault, but the charge was downgraded to assault of the normal degree.

One of those arrested is no longer suspected of a crime. The prosecutor does not want to comment on the crimes the other six are suspected of.

The suspected crime came to light after witnesses made observations. The decision to arrest the man was based on circumstances at the scene and the fact that a boy had to be taken to hospital for surgery. The boy was able to leave the hospital on Monday.

Licensed physician

The man who has been released is a licensed physician and works, among other things, performing circumcisions on boys at a private practice.

Emma Haals does not want to say what makes them suspect that a crime may have been committed.

No, I can't go into that in light of the investigation, says the prosecutor.

On Monday, media reports said the investigation concerned suspected female genital mutilation, but the prosecutor is not aware of this.

"The plaintiffs we have dealt with are only boys, and there is currently no information that any girls are plaintiffs. I don't know where the media got their information from," says Emma Haals.
