The shooting took place on Friday evening, October 24 last year, in Fornhöjden, Södertälje. According to the verdict, the shooter, a 30-year-old man, fired several shots from a pistol at three men sitting in a car.

Two of them were hit multiple times. One, an 18-year-old man in the driver's seat, was so badly injured that he died.

Should have been in prison

According to the prosecutor, the woman who has been sentenced acted as the driver, taking the shooter to and from the crime scene. She should not have been at large when the shooting took place.

The woman was sentenced in April last year to three years in prison for a serious drug offence. According to a decision by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, she was to report to prison to begin serving her sentence no later than the day before the murder in Södertälje, but failed to show up.

Instead, she and the shooter set out on a murder mission, which they had both agreed to carry out for payment in encrypted chats.

"The chat logs show, among other things, that they actively sought assignments in the criminal underworld, for example in so-called step-in chats," the court writes.

Gang conflict

The district court ruled that the shooting was linked to a criminal conflict in Södertälje, and that the plaintiffs in the case were tied to one side of the conflict. The people who were shot were not the original targets, but were likely chosen because they were connected to the group, the court said.

Both the man and the woman have been sentenced to life in prison by Södertälje District Court, which found that the act should be judged as "particularly reckless".

"The murder almost had the character of a pure execution and was aimed at a person who was unable to defend himself," the court writes in its verdict.

One person is being held in absentia on suspicion of inciting the murder.

Correction: A previous version contained incorrect information about the year in which the woman had previously been convicted.
