Malmö FF's attacking star Erik Botheim is forced to undergo surgery, the club announces on their website.

"Botheim has been medically examined in Malmö on Friday. The result of the examination shows a fracture in the lower leg and an operation will be performed next week", writes MFF on its website.

Malmö has had a bit of a downturn in the beginning of this year's football Allsvenskan – and now comes the next setback.

The Norwegian striker fell in the end of Thursday's 2-2 match between Malmö and Värnamo. After lying in pain, the 25-year-old was carried out on a stretcher and left the arena on crutches.

"A prognosis for rehabilitation time will be determined after the operation", writes the club.

Botheim has not yet scored a goal in this year's Allsvenskan – but scored twelve in last year's debut season with the "sky blues".
