The 22-year-old was born in Italy but received his football upbringing in Brommapojkarna. He moved back to Italy at the age of 16. Ekong made his debut in Serie A at the age of 20.
Last year, he made his debut for the Swedish U21 national team.
This season in Empoli, he has made 15 substitute appearances in the league and started twice in the Coppa Italia, where he also scored a goal.
Ekong has previously been loaned out to Croatian Istria.
"During his loan to Istria, Emmanuel developed in a good way and has since taken new steps since returning to Empoli", says sports manager Daniel Andersson.
Ekong has signed a five-year contract.
