MFF has had a party start to the women's top league season, and now the Scanian newcomer tops the table.

Hammarby has indeed one match in hand and will retake the lead in the series with at least a draw at home against Piteå on Saturday, but Malmö has shown that they are in the tight struggle to stay.

The player of the day was Sara Kanutte Fornes. After Izzy D'Aquila put Malmö ahead in the end of the first half, the 23-year-old Norwegian extended to 2-0 on a penalty shortly after the break.

Two quick goals from Växjö's Japanese Suzu Amano took the match to 2-2, but Kanutte Fornes had more to give.

In the 74th minute, she headed in 3-2 into the net on a rebound after Tuva Skoog hit the post via Växjö goalkeeper Maja Bay Østergaard's fingertips. And soon after, Sara Kanutte Fornes punctuated the match when she completed her hat-trick by volleying in 4-2, on Mia Persson's pass.

Malmö FF stands on 17 points after eight rounds. Hammarby (seven matches) is second on 16 with Häcken (eight) and Djurgården (seven) one point further behind.
