It looked for a long time like it would be a win for Malmö FF. But with seconds left, the away team Dinamo Zagreb equalized to 1–1 in the Europa League meeting. It's sour that we don't get to take the win with us, says Malmö's goal scorer Oscar Lewicki to Disney+.

Malmö's European adventure had not started as planned. First came the 1–2 loss at home against Ludogorets and then 0–3 against Viktoria Plzen in the last round.

In the third round of the European League group stage, MFF faced Dinamo Zagreb at home – and then the losing streak would be broken.

Despite the away team having the most possession and creating the most chances, it was Malmö who got the ball into the goal first.

”The best that exists”

Former national team midfielder Oscar Lewicki headed in 1–0 with just seconds left of the first half.

To stand at the stadium is the best that exists and to be able to help the team. I felt that I made a good performance and I felt that the team had a very good team spirit throughout the entire match, says Lewicki to Disney+.

The Croats continued to possess the ball in the second half – but Malmö was not harmless.

Hugo Bolin was close to early extending to 2–0, and shortly afterwards Kenan Busuladzic had a long shot just outside.

”Very annoying”

Then Zagreb's dominance was total.

The Croats sent in cross after cross against Malmö's increasingly pushed-back defense. Newly substituted Malmö defender Andrej Djuric headed the ball just outside his own goal. But in the end, the equalizer came – Monsef Bakrar came free in the penalty area and chipped the ball coolly over Melker Ellborg to 1–1.

I think we fought very well. We kept them out on the sides as much as possible. They got to hit crosses, but there we defended well throughout the entire match, says Oscar Lewicki and continues:

They get a goal at the end, which becomes very annoying of course. It felt like we were on our way to a very fine victory.

Malmö is in 31st place in the group with five rounds left of the league phase.
