Malmö FF lost 0–3 when they traveled to England and the City Ground to play a replay of the 1979 European Cup Final against Nottingham Forest in the Europa League.

Nottingham should win this game any day of the week, but it's never fun to lose, Anders Christiansen tells ESPN after playing his first minutes in almost two months.

In 1979, the match ended 1–0 to the English. This time, the numbers were bigger.

After half an hour played, Forest took the lead when Ryan Yates came free in the penalty area and managed a pass from the right wing.

Just before halftime, the home team extended their lead through Arnaud Kalimuendo after the Frenchman had quickly arrived on Melker Ellborg's return.

Comeback for Christiansen

A quarter of an hour into the second half, Nikola Milenkovic made it 3–0, which was the final score.

A few minutes earlier, Hugo Bolin was injured in a duel with Murillo and was forced to leave. Emmanuel Ekong came in to replace him.

More fun for the Skåne team was that Anders Christiansen made his comeback after being injured since the beginning of October. The Dane replaced Daniel Gudjohnsen with 25 minutes left in regular time.

"Of course it's nice to play again. It was a difficult and bad start but nice to be on the field again," says Christiansen.

“Really special”

Now MFF, who have no league games to take into account, must wait two weeks before the next match, against Porto away. Then there will be a three-week break before Malmö host Red Star at home.

We are in a period that is quite special so we just have to take one game at a time, says Pontus Jansson.

There has only been one point in five rounds for Malmö in the European competition, and the team is in 34th place out of 36 teams in the league phase.
