On Sunday night, two wagons on a freight train derailed between Kaisepakte and Stordalen, southeast of Abisko, in connection with a switch and at low speed.
Since then, traffic - both freight trains and SJ services - has come to a standstill.
The Swedish Transport Administration said in a press release that there is nothing to indicate that the derailment was due to the condition of the infrastructure. Around 40 sleepers and a switch crossing were damaged in the derailment, and there was also a rail fracture.
On Monday evening, the repair work had progressed far enough that a forecast could be given for when the track could be reopened.
