21-year-old American Ilia Malinin was one of the biggest favorites for gold at the Olympics. But after several mistakes in the free program - including two falls - he finished eighth.
"Before the competition I felt really good, I felt stable. I just thought that all I had to do was trust the plan that I've always followed," Malinin told the AP.
"But it's not like any other competition. It's the Olympics. I think people don't realize the pressure and the nervousness that actually goes on inside. It was something that really overwhelmed me."
The competition was decided on Friday evening.
