The military junta in Mali is stopping the activities of political parties "until further notice", the junta claims.
The junta claims that the measure is being taken "out of consideration for public order" at the same time as the opposition is protesting against the junta's stance towards dissenters.
The decree was read out on national TV and radio and comes ahead of a protest on Friday that junta-critical parties have summoned. The protest is being held to demonstrate against the dissolution of parties and to support a return to constitutional order in the troubled Sahel region.
