Authorities at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport arrested the 39-year-old pilot last month, shortly after he arrived from Kuala Lumpur, on suspicion of trying to smuggle more than 70,000 ecstasy tablets in his suitcase.
The arrested pilot faces the death penalty if convicted in Indonesia. According to Indonesian customs authorities, his urine sample tested positive for methamphetamine, MDMA and cocaine.
Malaysia Aviation Group has stated that he was not the one flying the plane from Kuala Lumpur on the day in question, but that he was in the cockpit as an observer and had been off duty for two days before the incident.
