This creates a risk of unhealthy competition, workplace crime and labor exploitation, according to the report.
The audit covers the Swedish Migration Board's checks on work permits for non-EU/EEA citizens. The conclusion is that the authority's checks do not effectively detect and prevent errors and abuse.
"The shortcomings increase the risk of wage dumping and distorted competition, where serious companies are disadvantaged. They also create a breeding ground for workplace crime and labor exploitation," says Auditor General Christina Gellerbrant Hagberg in a comment.
