The capital Nuuk and a suburb were left without power early on Saturday afternoon.
Shortly after 5 am on Sunday morning, Nukissiorfiit announced that two-thirds of Nuuk had regained power. It is expected that all will have power again soon.
However, citizens who have already regained power are urged to be frugal with their usage. For example, washing machines, dishwashers, and other electronic kitchen appliances should not be used unnecessarily.
An accident is pointed out as the cause of the power outage. At 1:50 pm, Nukissiorfiit was forced to temporarily shut off power to the entire city of Nuuk to start a backup generator, the company reports on social media.
The police's fixed telephones were knocked out, and the public service company KNR's broadcasts were down. Extra police patrols were sent out in Nuuk, Qinngorput, and the village of Nuussuaq. Nuuk's hospital was forced to use emergency generators.
The temperature in Nuuk was between 11 and 13 degrees below zero on Saturday evening. Warmth shelters were opened in several locations for the public.
It is still unclear exactly what caused the power outage.
