Gotland has once again been affected by a major power outage. According to the energy company Geab, a total of almost 43,000 customers on the island were left without power during the night towards Wednesday.
This is the second time in a short period that the power has disappeared on Gotland. At the end of August, virtually the entire island was without power for several hours due to disturbances in a cable to the mainland.
Via an SMS to its customers, Geab initially stated that the outage, once again, was due to the connection to the mainland being disconnected. However, just before 1:00 a.m., new information emerged that a lightning strike had caused the outage, reports Hela Gotland.
It's not the same fault as last time. That part is not being used at the moment, said Johanna Lind, duty officer at Geab, to the newspaper during the night.
The outage began at 11:40 p.m. At 1:30 a.m., the power was back on.
