Fagersta school attack leaves at least two minors seriously injured, man arrested

It was around 2 p.m. that police were called to a school in Fagersta due to ongoing deadly violence.

According to the municipality, the school, as well as several nearby schools, were placed under lockdown on Friday afternoon.

"A perpetrator with a sword has entered Brinell School and injured several people," Fagersta Municipality writes.

Police operation at residence

According to several media outlets, a police operation is underway at a residence in Fagersta in connection with the incident.

We received an alarm at 14.06 today and the alarm was about suspected ongoing deadly violence. We responded to it and sent all available resources to the scene. And at the moment one person has been arrested, a man. I am not going into any details regarding the person arrested at this time, says police spokesperson Pelle Vamstad.

He does not want to comment on the information about a sword.

No danger to the public

The police remain at the scene, securing properties, interviewing witnesses and conducting a technical investigation.

We will also look into whether there is any form of camera footage that could be of use to this preliminary investigation, says Vamstad.

According to Region Västmanland, at least two people are seriously injured - boys between the ages of 12 and 17.

"We have received two seriously injured people and one injured person is on the way," Jonas Cederberg, director of health and medical services in the region, told Expressen at 5 p.m.

A crisis center has been established in Risbrohallen in Fagersta for those who need support and information, the municipality states on its website.
