"A perpetrator with a sword has entered Brinell School and injured several people," writes Fagersta Municipality.

"The police are on site and searching the school. The perpetrator is in police custody. Brinellskolan, Olympen, Fagerstahallen, Risbroskolan, Skogsgläntan, Björksta, Prästkragen and Norrbybacken are under lockdown."

We received an alarm at 14:06 today and the alarm concerned suspected ongoing deadly violence. We responded and sent all available resources to the scene. At the moment one person has been arrested, a man. I am not going into any details regarding the arrestee at this time, says police spokesperson Pelle Vamstad.

He does not want to comment on the information about a sword or whether anyone was injured in the incident.

No danger to the public

The police remain at the scene, securing properties, interviewing witnesses and conducting a technical investigation.

We will also look into whether there is any form of camera footage that could be of use to this preliminary investigation, says Vamstad.

The police believe there is no danger to the public.

The ambulance service cannot say how many ambulances have been sent, partly because help may have come from surrounding regions. However, three so-called reserve vehicles have been manned and sent from Västerås.

The government is following the incident.

Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer says in a written comment to TT that he has received information about a "serious incident" in Fagersta.

"The police are on site and working very intensively on the incident. The government is in close contact with the police and is monitoring developments on an ongoing basis."

The Social Democrats' party leader also comments on the incident:

"Terrible information from Fagersta. My thoughts go out to those affected and everyone affected. When violence takes place at a school, I know it affects everyone in our country. All of Sweden stands with Fagersta in this difficult time," she writes in a statement to TT.
