The alarm about the fire in Hemmanet, south of Sundsvall, came at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
There was a full-blown fire in the building, which had eight apartments. The fire department allowed the house to burn and concentrated on preventing the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
A woman was taken to hospital by ambulance but sustained minor injuries.
The smoke was heavy, and a public notice was issued. It was lifted during the evening.
An independent school located near the fire-ravaged property will be closed on Monday. The school's principal made the decision in consultation with the fire service, local media reported.
