The alarm came on Thursday evening, and the rescue service had up to 70 firefighters at the scene. By morning, the fire had still not been extinguished.
"We are still working with a larger force. A preliminary forecast is that we will continue working until lunch," said line operator Linus Björkman in the morning.
The fire in the building, which, according to the police, is some kind of recycling center, is now under control.
There is no immediate danger to the public, but the fire department is urging residents to avoid the smoke.
"You should not breathe in the smoke or walk downwind. If you feel uncomfortable, move further away."
The police have opened a preliminary investigation into arson, but there are no suspects.
