Malmö Art Museum annually awards the scholarship to promising or established Swedish artists. Luca Lee Frei receives it for “creating open visual systems in the three-dimensionality of space and through textiles on walls and floors,” the jury said in its justification.
The Bäckströms were artists themselves and donated money to what is today one of Sweden's largest artist scholarships.
