Stark, who won the US Open as recently as a couple of weeks ago, had a nightmare start when she already on the second hole got a triple bogey.
This was followed by two more bogeys on the opening five holes.
The 25-year-old played up a bit towards the end but still landed three strokes over par after the first 18 holes.
Linn Grant also had a tough start to the championship. Grant went around in a total of 77 strokes and finished five over par.
Thai Atthaya Thitikul is leading on four under par.
