After Major Win, Stark Faces Challenges in US Golf Tournament

A salvaged major title on Sunday – a missed qualifying limit just over a week later. It was tough for the US Open winner Maja Stark to reload for this week's LPGA tour event.

I Sundays, the 25-year-old Swede lifted the US Open trophy on the golf course Erin Hills in Wisconsin. However, there was no direct celebration the first days after the first major victory in her career.

It was not until we got here that I really started celebrating, said Stark at a press conference in Wednesday before the LPGA tournament in New Jersey.

I had a bottle of champagne in my hotel room and I asked one of my friends if we should celebrate. Then we went to a bar here with some players, caddies and some friends.

There was not brilliant play in New Jersey for the Scanian. After rounds of 70 and 75 strokes, the 25-year-old will miss the cut-off limit in the tournament that is decided over three days.

Stark played one stroke under par on Friday, but on Saturday it became four strokes over par after six bogeys and two birdies for +3 total.

The tournament is ongoing and a large part of the starting field has not yet started their second round.

At the moment, it requires -1 overall to play the concluding round on Sunday.
