Jeff Bezos' space venture Blue Origin is writing off today's launch attempt to troubleshoot a problem and "exploring the possibilities for our next launch attempt."
The company waited for a couple of hours during the planned launch window before the announcement came.
The rocket New Glenn is named after astronaut John Glenn, it is 98 meters high and was intended to be launched from Cape Canaveral in the state of Florida on Monday night local time.
Jeff Bezos' venture is intended to shake up the commercial space race.
Space X has been more or less the only one in recent years, so to have a competitor ... this is fantastic, said G Scott Hubbard, retired senior NASA official, to AFP before the planned launch.
The plan is that Blue Origin will shortly after the launch, when it happens, attempt to land on a ship about 100 miles south of the launch site in the Atlantic. This will be Blue Origin's first attempt at sea landing.
Previously, the New Shepard rocket, which is used for space tourism and is much smaller, has landed on solid ground and not on a ship at sea.
