Magical Time Travel in This Year's Christmas Calendar

This year's Christmas calendar on SVT is a magical time travel where a boy is searching for his missing dad. At the center of the action is 11-year-old Clint, played by Gusten Wickberg. It's incredibly fun to be a part of something that so many people watch and appreciate, he says to TT.

Ever since Clint's dad disappeared on Christmas Eve five years ago, Clint has hated Christmas. But one evening in early December, everything changes suddenly when a mysterious man with his arms full of treasures appears in Clint's closet – where he drops a binoculars. Curious Clint tries the binoculars and is amazed when he sees his dad, who seems to be stuck somewhere in ancient times.

"The Time Thief" becomes an adventure in time and space when Clint, with the help of the time binoculars, travels back in history to try to find his missing dad.

Since Clint travels in time, he's very brave. He's also a bit small, curious, and determined, and he never gives up, says Gusten Wickberg about his character.

Large Audience

The fact that each episode of the Christmas calendar is usually watched by around one million Swedes is definitely something Gusten Wickberg has in mind now that the recordings are in full swing.

I think about it sometimes. But it's just incredibly fun to be part of something that so many people watch and appreciate, he says.

The cast also includes, among others, Maja Rung, Sissela Kyle, Loa Falkman, and Simon J Berger. Berger plays the Time Thief himself, who in the series is called Bildsköne Bengtsson. His hideout is a magical cave, filled with glittering objects from different time periods.

Bildsköne Bengtsson has really made a career out of his time travels. It has proven lucrative for him to steal valuable treasures from different times in history, says Berger.

New and Exciting

Simon J Berger has been in many TV series before, but "The Time Thief" means a new way of working.

It's very rare to make TV series that consist of 24 episodes. It becomes an interesting pace when you need a cliffhanger every 15 minutes, it makes it very special to work with the Christmas calendar. It makes it a bit new and exciting for me, he says.

The recordings are now continuing in Stockholm, Västervik, and on Gotland. And when it's time for "The Time Thief" to premiere in the winter, Gusten Wickström knows what he wants the viewers to feel:

I hope they'll be touched. And that they'll start liking Christmas more than Clint does!
