Mærsk and Hapag-Lloyd's joint route AE19, connecting Asia, Saudi Arabia and Europe, will operate via the Suez Canal starting Monday.

The decision is a step towards a "gradual return" to the Suez Canal, the company writes.

Mærsk, like several other shipping companies, decided to stop operating the important trade route in early 2024 after the Houthi movement in Yemen began attacking ships. Instead, they had to sail around the southernmost tip of Africa, the Cape of Good Hope.

In December last year, Mærsk partially began operating the Suez Canal again, but in March, traffic was stopped again after the Iran war broke out.
