Cilia Flores, the wife of Venezuela's ousted leader Nicolás Maduro - both of whom are facing drug trafficking charges in the United States - has requested to be released from custody and placed under house arrest, citing health concerns.
The defence says that 69-year-old Flores suffers from serious heart problems that require coronary X-rays and possibly surgery.
The then presidential couple were captured by American soldiers at the beginning of the year and taken to the United States.
