Venezuela's president Nicolás Maduro claims at a press conference in Caracas that eight American military vessels, equipped with 1,200 rockets, threaten the country, reports AFP.
The USA, which accuses Maduro of leading a drug cartel, has announced that it has sent warships south in the Caribbean Sea in an operation aimed at drug trafficking. Washington has not spoken of any invasion of Venezuela.
Earlier on Monday, Venezuela's foreign minister warned that, in addition to the vessels, 4,200 soldiers trained by the USA "are ready to invade" the country, reports the news agency Efe.
