Orbit was best known for his collaboration with Madonna on her 1998 album "Ray of Light" and has also produced music for Blur, All Saints and U2, among others.
A statement published on the producer's website and attributed to his family and friends announced that Orbit died at home on July 23.
"He will be deeply missed by us and by so many whose lives he touched through his music, friendship and kindness," the statement said.
No cause of death has been stated.
