Israel must act, according to Emmanuel Macron. If no response to the humanitarian situation comes from Israel "in the coming hours and days, we must sharpen our collective stance", he says at a defense conference in Singapore on Friday.
Macron also says that if "we abandon Gaza" it will "kill our credibility".
wants several countries to recognize a Palestinian state under certain conditions, including demilitarization of Hamas and recognition of Israel's right to exist and defend itself, says Macron.
Aid has begun to be let into Gaza after more than two months of Israeli blockade, but the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains difficult.
Israel has, through its Foreign Ministry, reacted to Macron's words and accuses him in a statement of conducting "a crusade against the Jewish state".
"There is no humanitarian blockade. It is an obvious lie", writes the Ministry.
"But instead of putting pressure on the jihadist terrorists, Macron wants to reward them with a Palestinian state."
