"In this time of great uncertainty, when the world is facing its biggest challenges, I will speak to you tonight at 8 pm", he writes on X on Wednesday morning.
This is the first time Macron is speaking to the French since the US's U-turn regarding Ukraine – and the world order in general – became clear.
Before tonight's speech, Macron will meet with Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for talks on, among other things, the war in Ukraine.
This takes place the day before Thursday's extraordinary EU summit in Brussels, where the member states hope to reach an agreement on continued support measures for Ukraine in light of the US's arms embargo.
